AUCTION : 0510

Lot#: 53

DESCRIPTION: A C.1915 custom Banjo case, with a c.1910 Chelsea weight banjo movement, rope front, Boston State House Glasses, as-found.
CONDITION: the top of the head has been routed out to accept the Chelsea mov't, but this appears to be because the case maker simply didnt leave enough room for the movement. Notice that the bottom box of the case is square, rather than rectangular; it appears that a good woodworker sketched his plans from a foto without understanding the true proportions. He also was given an odd weight that is two inches deep, and so he made the case nearly an extra inch deep to accommodate this weight. The painted dial needs restoration, now has a paper glued over, and coming loose. Rope trim on sides of lower door lacking. Overall an interesting clock that can be enjoyed as-is or the movement used in a Chelsea banjo or office regulator. Serial #8549. Ht 40"
ESTIMATE: $400 - $600
PRICE SOLD: $350
